This portrait of Vali Myers featured in ‘Shout Out to the Girls: A Celebration of Awesome Australian Women’ published by Penguin in 2018. I would occasionally see Vali walking around when I had my studio in Carlow House in Flinders Lane, Melbourne and she had her studio in the Nicholas Building (a block away). I remember also seeing her walk through Treasury Gardens one particularly frosty morning, her bright vermillion hair in stark contrast to the misty greens and greys of the park. Unfortunately I was always too scared to actually ‘meet’ her.
