Back in July 2025 I decided to participate in the massive Jacky Winter Gallery exhibition here in Melbourne, called “Assembly”. It was quite an undertaking for the gallery, with, from memory, over 170 artists participating – so, yes, my piece was just a drop in the ocean (similar to the feeling of being dumped by the very same agency back in 2022 for no longer being viable, or relevant, or what ever reasons they give for “refreshing the list” – not that I ever claimed to be any of these things).
It was a piece that I admittedly had started a while back, but never quite finished, trying to summon themes of artificiality, buying stuff on the internet, the old trend of covering the things in the “good room” with plastic so that no one could actually touch them, topped off with a forboding symbol that I hoped looked more than a bit menacing. All in a mausoleum tinged setting – an uncertain image for uncertain times.
