Anna Walker is an award winning illustrator and author who works from her studio basement in Richmond, Melbourne. Each day she creates whilst watching the ankles of people passing by, and occasionally she catches the eye of curious dogs and children. Her images are full of trees, and her studio is populated by knitted and soft toy versions of the characters she creates. I often picture her as a modern day Little Red Riding Hood traipsing through the forests of her imagination, a European lost in a bushland of her own making. it is this juxtaposition of the creative state and reality that I hope to capture in this painting. The leaves are a collage of pages taken from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s ‘The Little Prince”.
